OUR HISTORY

For nearly 30 years, F.A.I.T.H. has been helping people in our communities cope with the impact of violence and abuse in their lives. We have grown exponentially along the way…

1993

After conducting community-wide assessment, determines need for domestic violence program in Rabun County

1994

  • Forms a Board of Directors, gains non-profit status, becomes registered corporation in GA
  • Starts its 24-hour crisis hotline
  • Hires Executive Director, begins services for victims of domestic violence
  • Awarded contract with VOCA

1995

Opens Thrift Store in Dillard, GA

1996

  • Renovates building – proceeds from Rhapsody in Rabun, shelter for battered women & children
  • Thrift Store relocates to downtown Clayton, GA

1997

  • Domestic Violence Shelter opens in January
  • Awarded several state contracts including DCA, VOCA, DHR and DFCS
  • Awarded a state contract to provide Sexual Assault Prevention Services for Rabun & Stephens counties

1998

  • Awarded state & federal funding as state certified shelter.
  • Awarded contract with VAWA program to provide Sexual Assault Services in Rabun, Stephens & Towns counties
  • Hosts first annual Sweetheart Ball
  • Thrift Store open five days a week

1999

  • Awarded full state Shelter Certification status
  • Awarded state contract for Services & Shelter by GA DHR Family Violence Program
  • Additional staff member hired, provides 24-hour on-site shelter coverage

2000

  • Domestic Violence Shelter renovation completed
  • Resource Library completed
  • Funding received to begin Child Advocacy Center in Stephens County, GA

2001

  • Annual Sweetheart Ball; 400 guests
  • Receives funding for TANF Staff Position (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families)

2002

F.A.I.T.H. receives anonymous gift of $75,000 to open Power House Child Advocacy Center; dedication ceremony on June 2nd

2004-2005

F.A.I.T.H.’s Shelter remodel completed

2006

Therapy wing addition completed on Child Advocacy Center and Sexual Assault Center

2008

Our new Domestic Violence Shelter completed

2012

  • Thrift Store opens new Furniture location in downtown Clayton, GA
  • First in Georgia to reach the 15% tipping point for adults trained in Darkness to Light 5-Steps to Protecting Children program

2015

Expansion and remodeling completed on Child Advocacy Center and Sexual Assault Center

2018

20th Anniversary of F.A.I.T.H.’s Annual Sweetheart Ball
